Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who began his maiden foreign visit after his re-election in this Lok Sabha polls, on Saturday arrived in the Maldives. Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid recieved Modi at Male airport at around 4 pm this afternoon. The prime minister was also seen interacting with a little lass, who welcomed and greeted him with a bouquet of flowers. Modi’s visit to the Maldives is aimed at further cementing ties with the Indian Ocean archipelago and reflecting the importance India attaches to its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy. During his visit to the country, Modi will be also conferred with the Maldives’ highest honour “Rule of Nishan Izzuddeen”.
