(The United Kingdom’s new Prime Minister Boris Johnson has a Bollywood connection. Believe it or not, he is a distant relative of actress Sara Ali Khan)
Conservative Party leader and the face of the 2016 Brexit campaign, Boris Johson was elected by his party members to be the next prime minister of the United Kingdom. Much has been written and said about his policies and his controversial statements[ but not many know that he is connected to a Bollywood family]
Boris Johson is connected to Sara Ali Khan’s and to the Pataudis and the Kapoors of the Bollywood. including paparazi’s favourite and Sara Ali Khan’s kid step-brother Taimur Ali Khan. The bridge linking Johnson to the Pataudis is none other than novelist Khushwant Singh.
The mother of Boris Johnson’s second wife, Marina Wheeler, was Khushwant Singh’s niece and Simmba actress Sara Ali Khan is Khushwant Singh’s great-grandniece.
Let us explain.
Boris Johson was married to Marina Wheeler from 1993 to 2018, Wheeler is the daughter of BBC journalist Charles Wheeler and Dip Singh. who was earlier married to Khushwant Singh,s youngest brother’ Daljit Singh.
Sara Ali Khan’s mother Amrita Singh is the daughter of army officer Shivinder Singh Virk and political activist Rukhsana Sultana. Her paternal grandmother Mohinder Kaur was Khushwant Singh’s sister,
This makes Boris Johnson granduncle to Sara Ali Khan.
Son-in-law of India
During 25 years of his marriage, Boris Johnson travelled to India several times with his wife. He also once referred to himself as the son-in-law of India.
According to a column by Khushwant Singh’s son Rahul Singh in The Tribune, Boris Johnson is well versed with Indian politics.
“Should he become Britain’s next PM, I think those Indian insights, thanks mainly due to his 25 years of marriage to Marina, however rocky it may have been, and personal visits to this country, should augur well for better Indo-British ties,” Rahul Singh wrote in his column.
